I raise my hands in humble,
precious surrender. My sword dropped,
my viciousness as a veil removed.
And I stop to smell the flowers,
I stop to hear the birds.
I surrender. I surrender.
Darkness holds a strange allure,
as all the pretty flowers know,
and all the flitting birds attest,
darkness holds a sweet allure,
and brings us back.
It takes us back.
Darkness kindly hides the face
from watchful eyes, from judging eyes.
It hides all works of good or ill,
until light comes again.
And at the dawn I raise my hands,
and I surrender once again.
Light is such a lovely thing,
it shows the trees, it shows the stream,
and all the pretty flowers,
all the flitting birds,
all the people's hungry faces,
all the people's greedy faces
that darkness tries to hide.
But isn't it pathetic? Isn't it obscene?
I think it is indecent in the extreme
that people hide in darkness,
and let the flowers grow.
Hide away the beauty
so the evil doesn't show.
Darkness is a pretty veil,
but something better's there..
so I raise my hands in sweet surrender,
await the dawn and sing:
"I await a better day,
a precious day,
a prayerful day.
I await a better day,
and I shall fight no more."
So come ye, come ye unto light,
and drop your swords,
and hide no longer.
Patient waits the day.
